Eating at Salt Bae’s Steakhouse. A RIPOFF? Crazy Prices! Nusr-Et. NYC

I eat at and review Salt Bae’s Nusr-Et Steakhouse in Midtown Manhattan of New York City. The steakhouse comes from Nusret Gökçe, who is better known as Salt Bae. The Turkish butcher and chef rose to fame from posting amusing videos on Instagram in which he cuts and salts steaks in unique ways, which led to Salt Bae becoming an internet meme. The prices at Nusr-Et are insane with steaks costing over $1,000, while numerous menu items are covered in gold. The restaurant has been called a "ripoff" and I wanted to see if that was true.

I live in the UAE, which is the spiritual home of Salty. His customers have million dollar cars and 100, 000 dollar watches. 900 bucks for a steak is nothing to these people. Expensive but unchallenging is what wealthy diners in the UAE want. Fair play to Salty, I'll never eat there but I salute his ability to rinse the rich!

I was an executive chef and have sourced meat from all over and have had Kobe in Tokyo on multiple visits. There is not a meat purveyor in the world that charges enough to justify a steak on a menu for over $1000.

Having eaten at both Nusr-Et and his now closed burger spot I gotta say that, while indeed his restaurants are overpriced, the people who work there are some of the nicest people. Particularly at the now closed Salt Bae Burger, all the staff there were incredibly friendly. I certainly give Salt Bae credit for providing great service and creating a great team culture.
