Fox News Can't Figure Out What to Do With Tim Walz

Republicans are in full freak-out mode after Vice President Kamala Harris picked Minnesota Governor Tim Walz as her running mate.

Kat Abughazaleh argues that Walz's high crime, in the fevered minds of far-right talking heads, is truly unforgivable: Being an astute governor who has enacted a broad range of popular and mainstream policies from universal free school meals to enshrining abortion rights. The gall of the man!

“If you aren't familiar with Walz,” Kat argues in this new video essay, “he's basically what the Republicans cosplay as, and on top of that, he's a remarkably effective governor.”

“For the last two weeks, Republicans have been flailing in their attacks against him,” Kat continues, trying to aim barbs at someone who has the unfortunately bland reputation of being a clean-cut, bipartisan candidate unburdened by major scandals. So conservatives have resorted to tagging him with the hits—"radical" or "Marxist"—despite his mainstream record and everyman persona as an Army veteran, high school teacher, coach, and roller coaster enthusiast.

It’s an improvised attack strategy in real-time. The problem is that those attacks might sound like endorsements to many voters.

Walz's joint family income at its highest was around 211k and way lower than that before. He maxed out his credit card to run for congress in 2006. He doesn't have stock because the family income is tight and he is depending on his pension from his formerly low paid jobs as a teacher and from his governor's job. He did not take his 2 pay increases as governor because those increases were approved by a council that he appointed. He seems like a genuine person with his own true internal values that guide his life and actions.
