What I was hoping to find out, as everybody just assumes a wrong setting for this issue, is what is the cause of this issue?

I have had an iPhone for over 10 years and haven't changed any settings for years. Especially not ones that have anything to do with sending and receiving messages. I've always had both email and phone number checked for the "receiving and replying" setting, but the "start conversation" setting has only ever been my number.

So what caused my phone to randomly send a message to my cousin using my email?

It has NEVER done that before in all of these years. Why now?

Thanks for any advice, there is nothing anywhere that will explain, maybe it's apples dodgy dealings that at nobody seems to want to question again!
