In this week's session, it's time for some ear training. When working with dialogue audio, I find it helps to train your ears and so that's exactly what we'll do here. We'll use an equalizer and compressor to help you HEAR how these change the quality of sound. After that, we answer your sound for video questions.

Great video. I've gone overboard with EQ before. I'm a novice. My trick is to give myself an EQ budget. I get one cut of 5 db, one boost of 3 or 4 db, and two cut or boosts of 2 db. Allow an extra 3db for free if it's a lav mic. 80hz high pass is free. It keeps me from doing more harm than good until I learn better judgement.
The compression section was excellent as well.

Great pop quiz! Watching the replay I did pretty well with all my EQ low/mid/high, boost/cut guesses listening on just Logitech computer speakers.

I didn't get to watch it live. I really enjoyed it. Great exercises. Great way to learn.

I got all but the 1kHz boost and cut. I was thinking 500 Hz for both. Guess I need to work on that frequency heh. Do you plan on doing more of these?
