Don't make the same mistake I did by buying a used Intel Mac.

I think Apple M1 is reaching that age where it's old enough to be cheap, but new enough to be powerful.

Yea I’m looking to buy a 2017 27” iMac - the fact that you can get these sub $500 is incredible - the display and design are still impeccable. I recently got a 2019 16” MacBook Pro and I love it a lot - people rave about Apple Silicon (as they rightly should) but for 90% of people, Intel was totally fine.

My M2 Pro 16GB is my home go to device, but my 2017 i5 Pro 16GB with Sanoma via opencore patcher is my cafe queen as it saves me being stabbed, robbed etc whilst in public.

I got an intel MacBook pro from my company, it sounds like a plane taking off whenever I open more than a few programs.

I use an Intel Macbook Pro 2019 16" I9 with 64 gb ram/1 TB drive. It much better than the two work Intel computers I have used, a HP Elitebook from 2020 and a Dell Lattitude 2024. While the Elitebook was somewhat comparable, the Dell laptop is not better at anything and is ugly and boxy. I also have a Macbook Air M1, but I like the screen, trackpad and speakers of 2019 Macbook Pro better. Th 2019 MBP is still my favorite. It is also nice to use windows from time to time. I like that Macbook Air M1 is cool and have extremly long batterylife.

The fear for an SSD dying is not theoretical!
I have a 2015 MacBook Air that I did not use for 2 years. When I tried to turn it on again, it had trouble booting. The drive would randomly show up as a boot drive or disappear. Was it the controller? Nope. I replaced the SSD with a new one and voila — I could reinstall and the SDD is faster and bigger than the original! I use at on a daily basis for light tasks again.
Imagine this happens after 5-7 years with your MacBook Pro that you paid $3500 for.

Depends on your budget and need. I, personally, am keeping a keen eye out for a 2012 15" i7 2.7ghz. Also about to buy a 2015 or 2017 MB Air with a 2TB SSD for a mobile Movie machine and email terminal for an elderly relative. Biggest reason I have not got to Apple Silicon...the ridiculous price for storage. 2TB is the bare minimum for my need. I do not want to lug around portable SSD drives. My daily work machine as an IT Manager and Graphics Pro is a 2013 MacPro 10-core. ZERO problems. Bosses M1 Max MBP only feel faster is boot time and dull tasks like copying. In Creative Cloud...not so much of a difference. One day, when the price is right, I will upgrade to an M1 Max MBP 16. Prices are getting there. Mine will have to have a 4TB or 8TB SSD. Same with a Studio. It would be awesome if Apple made their devices with a super fast 256 SSD that is OS/Apps only and then a slot for storage for files. Have you ever restored from TimeMachine a full 2TB Boot Drive. TAKES FOR EVER. Learned my lesson. Now I always partition. 1 for OS and Applications, another for files.

I'm waiting for the 2019 16" MacBook Pro to become really cheap for a 1TB SSD model, I actually need intel so that it can natively run Windows as i use some softwares that are windows only. The M1 series is a distant dream for me as i'm gonna need at least 16GB/32GB RAM and 2TB/4TB SSD if it's going to be my main laptop, i think they still run into the thousands at the moment.

Intel Macs are still worth buying and have their place imo, especially with the price drops since the M-series Macs took over. Graphics are obviously where they fall short, but quad core i7's are still plenty capable for many daily tasks. If you're worried about thermals/battery life, there are apps to mitigate that like Macs FanControl, Turbo Boost Switcher, gfxCardStatus and CPUSetter. I run my rMBP with only 2 physical cores active with Hyper Threading most of the time and its fine for light stuff like web browsing, email, movies, productivity, etc. When I need more power for something like gaming, I just adjust my settings. And as a bonus, I can boot into Windows 10 whenever I need it.

I am using a 2019 intel macbook pro 16 . It works perfectly fine and no issues so far.
I am not a video editor and mostly my work is normal browsing and coding works . It works super smooth and the speakers are great listening to podcast and online lessons.
Even video editing in FCP it works well, the fan noise dosent bother me much .

I feel no need to upgrade to M1 macbooks now, because i have a ipad -> M1 ipad pro 12.9 .
Dont wanted to waste any money spending my devices as long as all works perfectly well .

I use a Mac Mini M2 base config. Perfect machine that just works. I went through so many windows and linux setups... nothing was as reliable as the Mac

I recently bought a 20 inch 2008 MacBook Pro, 2.4 GHz., core 2 duo, 8 gig of ram., I installed a 240 gig ssd., and I then installed Linux Mint Mate and currently the laptop works very well.
The design of the laptop is good except that it only has two USB., ports and they are both on the same side and to apply new thermal paste to the processor the logic board has to be removed.

I recently bought a MacBook Pro with an M3 Pro, 18GB RAM, and 2TB SSD storage from Apple's certified refurbished!
Even though M4 is literally around the corner, I still like this one because I plan to video edit on it given I am trying to stick with Intel Arc on my Windows desktop... Plus battery performance on ARM vs an x86 Windows laptop... I do miss my Surface Book...

I got a m2 pro mbp, its 14inch. Its a pretty nice machine, though intelmacs have a good thing going on for them, you can boot to windows and with an egpu actually game on it comfortably. So maybe if i get a 3d printer and a bit more money, i buy myself one so i can upgrade the cooling and use it for gaming aswell.

I got a 2012 powerhouse macbook pro to do basic cuts for work on the move. But its never intended to be a main computer.
plus it was like 250 bucks ssd upgraded.

Now I might be able to upgrade my old imac to a mac studio and to think itll be faster than a intel mac pro... Man I am pumped.

I am typing this on a M3 MAX with 64 GB and am staring above at my retired Early 2011 17-inch MBP with Intel CPU 2820-QM 2.3 gHZ which was the top of the line at that time but is now way past its prime.

Memories.
