Continuing with my review of classic video games based on Dune, and it's the turn of Dune 2000, remake of the 1992 game Dune II, released in 1998 by Westwood Studios. As a remake that is, we find practically the same, but more updated. Even so, I would say that by 1998, this game was already outdated compared to other RTS of the time, for example, Starcraft, or even C&C Tiberian Sun also by Westwood. In fact, it seems that this game still uses the engine of the first C&C games.

Of course, we have the typical video sequences between missions characteristic of Westwood, even with some Hollywood actor like the one in the thumbnail of the video. Do you recognize him? He is John Rhys-Davies, known for his roles in Indiana Jones and Lord of the Rings.

In this gameplay, as I did in the Command & Conquer video, I show how I install the game on a PCem with Windows 95, and play the first missions of the 3 campaigns, 3 in the case of the Atreides and 2 of the others, because basically they are the same, changing only some small things.

This game can be played with OpenRA, a program that reinterprets the engine of some classic Westwood RTS to be played on modern PCs, but I have preferred to show it as close as possible to how it would be to play it on a PC of the time (since OpenRA changes several things, such as the interface).

Loved this game. Weirdly, played it as a kid with zero conception of what Dune was. Played hours upon hours of it. Wasn't until my late teens I found out what Dune actually was and was sort of baffled haha. Reading the book going - "damn, no House Ordos?"

Few, I just woke up from a bad dream. There was this thing called 9/11followed by two disastrous wars, then -get this- there was a massive recession a few years later, and a global pandemic in the 20s. Man, I am sure glad it was all a bad dream! Hey, whats a youtube?
