BY THE ORDER OF…
We opened Schorem Haarsnijder En Barbier, our classic old-school barbershop in the heart of working class town Rotterdam in February 2011 having absolutely NO IDEA it would grow into the most famous barbershop in the world (I’m usually quite the humble guy but I’m also proud as a seven 🍆-ed monkey and hey, apparently it’s not bragging when it’s the truth as they say)
There are many reasons this happened and as much as I’d like to say it was just the quality of the haircuts I’d be lying… It was mostly perfect timing, the world was ready, social media was catching on like wildfire offering a great platform for a word vomiting storyteller like myself, Jelle walked in and became our house photographer telling a story trough his brilliant, most black and white images ánd of course we actually did quite a decent job on the haircuts…
The stars were aligned in our favor I guess… We were blessed with luck and it wasn’t bad luck this time…
In 2013 the BBC aired a brand new show called Peaky Blinders, a gang of small time gangsters in Birmingham… Next to an absolute brilliant cast and plot the show became known for it’s impeccable styling, the suits, the hair, the locations, the lighting and camera work, there wasn’t a guy in the world that didn’t (secretly) wanna be Arthur or Tommy Shelby and we had SO MANY requests for the “Shelby” cut…
Saillant detail… the moment the actors were done shooting and the suits went off, the actors put on a hat ASAP as they claimed to look absolutely ridiculous off set and they weren’t wrong (I actually got that first (right red) hand from the lady who did the hair and make up for the show who took a course The Old School.
This look we created inspired by Arthur Shelby was added last moment, it wasn’t on the original list of ICONS but I wouldn’t be me without starting a little controversy by not dressing @batcitybabe up as the toughest mofo of the show but to add his signature moustache as cherry on top…
Imagine being SO beautiful, SO confident and SO BAD-A$$ that the moment you get into character you don’t just look like Arthur but you become him and slap the stylist’s a$$ 😂♥️
