Many Magic: The Gathering players ask the question, is it worth it to buy a bundle?

Previously known as Fat Packs, bundles have both expanded and refined themselves in regards to what they offer and how well they offer it. One of the higher priced products for players to procure, let’s look at what precisely these are packed with and whether it is worth buying.

Because at an MSRP of 42.99 this is either a chest stuffed with treasure or, quite possibly fool’s gold. Let’s explore!

Please note: This video will be examining the current contents of the Ixalan bundle, but since bundles remain more or less identical from set to set, this video can be treated as current or up to date until such time as bundle contents have changed enough to warrant an update, or the product gets renamed again.

Everyone watching this who buys packs over the counter, whether a bunch at once or maybe, you pick up a pack or two every so often from your LGS, and then over the course of a set you’ve bought 10. Here’s the first question. If you saw the Bundle Box, well boxes, the Set Guide, the bent, permanently creased crappy poster, the land pack, and a spindown all sitting on the counter at your LGS and priced at 2.99, would you pick it up. Because that’s what you are doing here. Want this for 2.99 and you were going to buy 10 packs over the counter at 4 bucks each, that’s a bundle. Is this stuff worth getting?

The box itself is significantly better than previous fat pack styles. Notice the vertical lip, exposing part of the box for easy access. This allows you to always be able to easy grip and open your bundle box.

Inside I just love that there’s this extra cardboard compartment. Holds slightly over 100 double sleeved cards. Great for keeping your active deck or favorited cards separate from the rest of what you are storing in the bundle box.

I usually pick up a bundle every set to scratch the itch for cracking packs. The boxes are cool and I use them for my edh decks and sorting cards.

Hold that phone, was that a crowbar you used to open the bundle?

Thought about buying one the other day! Booster packs aren't really a good investment, but they are SO DAMN FUN TO OPEN!

I actually like having a box and land pack from each set, that's the main reason why I buy bundles and I use the packs for drafting with friends. The Amonkhet block had the best bundles though, because they also included a pack with double faced tokens in it covering every token in the set. Looks like they stopped doing that, which is too bad.

Thanks for looking at the guide instead of just skipping over it and saying all the information is online.

I'd love a hard copy of the brief story they publish for each set to be included. Personally I love the player guides and they are the main draw card for the bundles for me.

My 11 yr old son is really getting into MTG and love opening packs and not yet to the "only crack packs to draft" rule yet. I think I am going to keep track of how many he or I buy for him and see if we ever get to 10 for a set. Currently I am thinking yes. Love the assessment of the other items. Thank you.

I'm a fairly new MTG player, and play commander often with my friends. I like to buy the bundle boxes because I often feel the most lucky with them. The box is also great to me because of the land pack; otherwise land is a frustrating thing to find myself running out of when I tried to make a deck for the first time. Finally, as a new player, I love the box. Storage is something I overlooked when I started the game, so I'm glad one of the first things I bought with my MTG playing friends was a bundle box.

I buy a bundle pretty frequently. I like boxes and opening packs is just fun for me. It's nice to see all the boxes on the shelf, giving a visual tour of what planes I've visited.

Thanks, Prof! I almost made a goof. The local store wanted $50. I think I'm going to card kingdom now

Could you do a series of videos talking about the lore or explaining the story of each set, I would find that interesting

IMHO Just because you can find all the cards online, having that booklet with the cards is invaluable for a beginner purchasing the set without any prior knowledge of the set/MTG.

I like buying bundles in some part for the box. Having a box to store cards from a set that has art from that specific set is pretty nice. And while it may not be the most cost effective way to buy packs in most cases, I do love cracking open boosters. Something of a thrill for me I guess.

One thing I'd like them to change about bundles is that small box wrapped in the bottom of the packaging. I have one or two that see use as storage boxes for dice/spin-downs or for minis for D&D, but the rest either clutter up my place or get tossed in the recycling bin. Do not want.

Recently me and my father delved into the world of both physical Magic The Gathering and Magic The Gathering: Arena. We decided to go the local game store and we picked up A Zendikar Rising Bundle Box. We went only for one as it was are very first Magic The Gathering Purchase. After we Opened the 10 Packs, Got the Total land count. We were actually able to make 2 "decent" 60 card decks and have since started playing about daily against each other, We actually just made 2 different decks out of the bundle and an old deck a friend gave me after i told them i was getting into magic. Thank you so much for all the Magic content you provide. The tips and Are they worth it series really help. Keep up the great work!!

I have been buying bundles forever but seeing your breakdown has opened my eyes and i need to just wait a little while longer until i have enough for a booster box. These videos are immensely helpful.
