I have been a self employed boat repairer (fibreglass & cosmetic repairs) since 2010, and have had to wrap it up this year because people simply can't afford it anymore.
Most people now are having to cut costs now and prioritize.
This collapse is all by design.

There are services you can do yourself, like cleaning your home, mowing the lawn, or cutting your own hair. There are services you cannot do, like dentistry(root canal, dental surgery, tooth restoration, filling cavities, etc), seeing a MD for medical problems, getting a prescription, going to the ophthalmologist, getting your car repaired, etc.

I have used a Flowbee to cut my hair for over 30 years. Love it. I pay nothing and can cut my hair whenever I want to. Looks good, feels great. Best money I spent 30 yrs ago and still using it. If I were to get a cut every month, at 30. each, I saved over $10K.

I actually started shaving my own head and got a head shaver about 5 years ago. I haven't paid for a haircut since. In the women seem to like it with my head shaved. That to me is a win-win situation

I've cut my own hair for years, just buzz it off. Cut my own lawn, repair my car as I'm able and maintenance on my own equipment. 🎉

If you’re struggling because you can’t pay someone to clean your house, you’re not really struggling.

We have a neighbor that would have their lawn mowed, weekly. Now they do it themselves.

For me, I used to have my hair cut and colored about every 3 weeks. Now it's 6 to 8 weeks. If her prices go up, I will have to stop. I have used her for over 20 years

I've been cutting my own hair I have a pixie and it is easy to do. My husband cuts his hair and I trim the back. We have always done our own work inside and out. Detail our own cars and do most of the maintenance our self's.

I own a hair salon. We have our regular 4-6 week color Clients doing mini color services every 4-6 weeks instead of full service like they used to.
My hope is that the experience during the time clients are with us is of value and not just a cut or color.
The fact is we can’t lower our prices with taxes, cost of supplies and wages the way they are.

My barber raised his price to 35 dollars a cut, 30 for my son and 15 for a beard trim. 80 dollars later for a couple simple cuts. Insane !!

Kind of funny since we're pretty much nothing but a service industry economy.

That man getting rid of his blankets is foolish. With everything going on in the world he may need them as we head into winter.

I appreciate your honesty, and worrying about your fellow neighbor, but I am a Carpet Cleaner, have LLC. My business is booming. But the big carpet cleaners like Stanley steamer are being hung up on. Big corporate wanted $300 for a couch and a rug and a room. My couch $45 rug $20 room $30 they immediately call me and i take their business. I also clean some rugs for free. One lady said I don't have enough stairs which are $30 I told her $15 and she said yes. Just gotta go into to manipulate the money and work for God. Sometimes just gotta give and not be so money hungry.

Weekly hair cuts? Really? I get mine cut every 3 to 4 months. I tell my barber to cut it to "bootcamp, plus a few weeks", and don't come back til its getting in my eyes.

I own a pest control business and that industry is still thriving. I'm in process of selling to early retire. However my second business is Woodworking and we do vendor events, used to may around 500 to 1000 in a few hrs. Made a whole 30 bucks today. Have a friend that's a house cleaner who just opened a business and she's doing well. Rich people don't have a problem paying for house cleaners..people who try to play rich would be the ones cutting back.

I canceled my car wash subscription. Unnecessary monthly expense.

Snyder is right. In my area, during COVID, when everyone had free money to throw away, service industry exploded. Everything from auto detail to other non sense exploded in demand. Now I rarely see anyone using those services. The auto detailers and other non essentials have impeded and are not used much. People are resorting to cheaper alternatives.

I started cutting my own hair months ago. The barbers want over $20 for just a basic cut and then a 20% tip and get upset when it’s lower. When it starts pushing $30 for a haircut it’s too much. I also fix my own cars with my son’s help. Just can’t afford to have a professional do it and they do such a mediocre job anyway. Inflation is killing everything in the economy but I think that is the plan.

My heating element went out on my dryer so I called a repair place, 185 service call, then 85 an hour And parts, I freaking you tubed it And The part was 40 bucks, took me 1 hour to replace it. These services people are way overpriced and they are going to feel it this Winter
