Before anything, I want to say thank you for sharing this. Ok now down to my frustration: I come from a family of math teachers so as I'm sure you can understand, we are appalled by common core. My son had this lesson for homework tonight (after being told to watch a video for last night's homework as the whole class got it wrong) My issue with this lesson is that my son's class did NOT learn to use fractions, they were told not to use fractions sooo..?? This lesson, questions 2 and 3, these two questions are all but impossible without using fractions. I do understand that he can simply answer "no" but that doesn't seem correct to me as surely they are expected to do some more 'work' other than answering no. I am wondering if his teacher gave this lesson too early, was she supposed to have taught fraction side lengths and THEN give this lesson? I apologize for the rambling comment, my brain is all over the place from this homework 😩
