Here’s Why You MUST Visit Emporio, Santorini ⬇️
✨Save for your next trip to Santorini✨
📍Emporio is the largest village on the island and located on the southern part of Santorini, Greece. Approximately 12 kilometers from the island’s capital, Fira, and is near Perissa and Perivolos beaches.
🚗 Emporio is easy to drive to as it’s on the main road from Fira to Perissa beach, signposted well and also easy to follow the route on Google Maps etc. We always found a parking spot in the village square. You can also catch a local bus - all buses start and end in Fira so you’ll need to catch the Fira to Perissa bus to be dropped off along the way.
🏰 Emporio served as a significant commercial hub during the medieval period. The village is home to the Kasteli fortress, built to protect against pirate invasions, and the Goulas tower, which provided refuge for locals. It is easy to get lost in amongst the labyrinth of windy narrow alleyways which, in my opinion, makes it all the more alluring!
📸 Emporio is a photographers dream!! I literally have hundreds of photos I’ve taken here from each trip I’ve been on. Some angles just dont look real… honestly, it will blow your mind! See my cover photo - looks like an abstract painting!
👫Emporio is always quiet!! Even in the middle of July it’s quiet! The perfect village to escape the crowds of the busier towns like Fira and Oia. I filmed 14 days on Santorini island travel vlogs over on my YouTube channel - Clairegoeswhere which shows us walking around Emporio in July (2022) if you’d like to see what it’s like in the middle is summer.
🍲 You’ll find plenty of bars and restaurants in Emporio but make sure to check out the opening times as we’ve noticed a few are not open all through the day. You’ll find rooftop terrace bars, little coffee shops and you’ll see more restaurants near or around the square.
