Welcome to Small Claims Court Bootcamp!

These are the 7 worst mistakes you can make in small claims court.

1. Not showing up to your hearing.

Most courts will close your case if you don’t show up to your hearing.

2. Being Late.

Most courts will do a roll call right at the beginnning of your hearing time.
If you don't show up on time, you may miss that roll call and they may just close
your case.

3. NOT preparing for the hearing

The last thing you need is leaving money on the table because you didn’t prepare your evidence forthe court making the judge very frustrated.

4. Talking back to the judge

While you may be frustrated, DO NOT talk back to the judge an angry judge is not going to go right for you.

5. Interrupting the other party

While they may be lying or saying crazy things, DO NOT interrupt them. Instead, write things down on a piece of paper and when it is your turn to speak, go over it with the judge.

6. Not answering the question the judge asked you.

Going off on a tangent about other things you want the judge to know but not directly answering their question will lead to frustration.

7. LYING!

DO NOT LIE! They will find out, especially if the other party brought evidence with them to the hearing that proves you’re lying.

Thank you so much for watching!

Hello I received an invoice for 885$ for “cleaning” “painting” but I am not going to pay for it as the damages were not my fault & the place was clean and the paint was already worn I am in the sueing process for treble damages already which amount to 4500 do I add that onto that amount? Or do I mention in court that I want that charge to be removed?
