It's a disgrace that U.S. Mint coins have no real security features.

Got a sigma pro last year from the company. I have checked everything I have. And all that I’ve purchased since. Well worth the price.

The most important thing when buying gold is who you buy it from.

Buying a coin from apmex that came straight from the u.s. mint is much different than buying on ebay from a private person. I always buy from.a very high reputable dealer that has checked the coin or came straight from the mint.

I have the cheapest version of the Sigma with the small wand attachment too. It cost me $900. It works well enough. I test all gold bullion which works very well. I try to test slabbed gold, which sometimes works, sometimes does not (particularly on smaller slabbed coins). But, what the heck, they are in a slab, which is the only way I buy pre-33. I just don't bother to test silver, although I have some. It is less likely to be counterfeited and if I got fooled, I am not out that much cash. Bottom line, I highly recommend that you get at least a cheap Sigma, even if it galls you to give up cash that could have been turned into gold.

I only buy gold from my local LCS that tests it in front of me before I buy.

The US mint needs to actually get some real security features

I test all my metals although I don't always test the silver immediately. I think a Sigma is worth considering if you're a regular gold buyer. It's a pretty easy test (unlike testing specific gravity in a glass of water which is messy) and is pretty easy to take to a coin shop or a coin show

Very cool look at these, thanks! I have a great LCS that will test my stuff, but I have been eyeing that Investor model, just haven't pulled the trigger...yet!

The Mini Pro DOES have secondary testing measures. I have it and absolutely love it. Like you said, once it's connected, it's seamless. If you connect it to a tablet, you can use the specific gravity measurement on larger pieces like bars and larger-sized rounds.

I've been buying gold/metals for 10+ years, and by this point have accumulated quite a bit.
Always purchased from a reputable dealer (I'll just say it's one of the MAJOR, well-known, online sellers) and never worried a whole lot
about fakes. But... your video motivated me to get one of the Sigma testers...
"it's the only way to be sure..." :^)

[and I did use your link for the discount, slightly cheaper than the AG Bullion eBay listing]

It is! I hope... but they do seem to be, after checking them with various methods. My brother works at place where they legalize any kind of scales and other measuring devices. So at least regarding the weight, I am pretty sure it is fine.

I just got a 2024 Buffalo, and I was surprised to see that the rim is near perfect. I'm wondering what others are seeing, and maybe the US Mint fixed it this year.

Ah testing equipment, my favorite topic! 😆

Love my Sigma Pro Mini, it’s my go to testing equipment. But I do back this up with a GVS Bullion Tester, which tests a metal’s magnetism (which cannot be faked or manipulated). Both the Pro Mini and the GVS can test thru capsules and slabs, so they are great for preserving the numismatic value of the encased coin without prying it open.

I bought my Gold with SD bullion and Silver with Monument Metals. I hope those are creditable and reputable companies.
