With our economy in Eastern Europe most of elders eat expired food everyday. (I mean it's not kept for months. Grocery stores make -50% discount one day before expiration date and people do buy it. Milk, sour cream, meat, cheese, etc.

That is why people with bunkers don't store them with food that can expire in short periods of time.

Canned goods last years beyond the sell by date. Maybe not perishable food (even then they don't become toxic the day after the sell by date). You could eat canned food that expired before you or I were born, it'd just maybe taste like eating a tub of snot. But if you're starving, suddenly that tub of snot looks pretty darn good.
