A man claiming to be with Duke Energy showed up at this woman's front door. He said he wanted to talk about a bill. The resident shared it with neighbors, who said they have seen the man too.

Never let anyone in your home because they are wearing a yellow vest and hard hat. You can buy those in any hardware store.

How about notifying the police instead of the "neighborhood app"?

I had a solicitor come to my door about a week before Halloween one year. Being that we're a household that loves Halloween we go all out with props, costumes etc. I decided to run to the garage get my chainsaw and pour some fake blood on myself, I was just wearing shorts and and no shirt which added to the look. I've never someone run that fast.

Always call the utility company to verify it. Don't take any number they give you look it up on your last bill.

Rather then doing what she did, she should have immediately called the police. Let him explain it all to them.

This happened to me years ago around 8 pm. I knew he was lying. He kept knocking and knocking but refused to tell me his name so I snuck outside, got in my vehicle, sped out the driveway while he was still at the front door, pulled behind his vehicle which was on the street, called the police while watching him and, kept my bright light on in his face, relayed his license plate to 911. He ran like a Cheetah. I never saw or heard from him again. After some investigation by the police, he lived some 40-50 miles away from my home.

What bothers me about this story is: Why is the media protecting this guy for? Obviously he's suspect!

Exact same thing just happened to me today with a scammer pretending to be my local power company rep stopping by to help me get a rebate on my bill because the power company knew it was too high this summer. I did the same thing this lady did. Called power company to verify no people in my neighborhood. Reported on Next Door App. Reported to police.

He’s just a naive door to door worker. They will never pay him. I had that job at 18.

Good for that lady. AS soon as this happens WARN your neighbors! Then worry about contacting the "company".

I use to walk around my neighborhood for exercise. Anyone who's lived here for the past 5 years probably have seen me. I know longer feel safe as more and more renters find that renting a large home is cheaper than several apartments. We are seeing an influx of pitbulls as well. Under the current environment owners would likely be suspicious of me rather than new renters. Everywhere in America for the elderly we are seeing the risk to our safety increase exponentially.

I hope she reported this to the police and sent a copy to them and if anyone else has a security camera and captures this person report and send to your local police department so they can investigate. That’s why it’s nice to have these ring video doorbells you can talk to the person through your phone using the ring app with out having to open the door and stay safe. 👮🏻‍♂️🚔🚨

Comed never goes to your door without an appointment. Nicor always wear very specific uniforms with their logos. Never believe anyone else. If it's suspicious just tell them you'll call the company to take care of it, whatever it is. Never give them your bill. They'll snap a picture of it and that's that they have your info.

This is why, as a utility worker I wear my badge hanging from my pocket and park my truck where the homeowner can see it when i knock. If you feel weird just call the utility they are representing and verify.
