I entered the semiconductor manufacturing business back in 1993. I was exposed to it far earlier when I worked at Tektronix in the late 70’s where I worked on the floor above a cmos fab and watching 2” wafer etching with tweezers in beakers! The state of the art today is mind-blowing. I’ve witnessed 2” to 4” to 6” to 8” to 300mm process improvements over a 30 year period. I’ve been out the industry for ten years, so I find great satisfaction in watching your channel so I can keep up on the latest advancements in the technology. You do a very good job of breaking it all down! Thank you, Anastasi!! 😊

Thanks, Anastasi, for consulting your notes regarding photonic materials and remarking that it's impossible to remember this stuff. I watch your videos regularly to just keep up with the flavor of the tech (I'm a subscriber) and you dumb it down just the right amount. As an engineer, I get the gist of the tech and don't require being too much into the weeds, but I think your mix is about right. I didn't know that photonics were this developed. Really hopeful.

For decades, data has moved super fast between computers, over fiber optic cables, only to be slowed down a million times when entering the computer. So it is inevitable to use light inside the computer, more and more, over time. Probably starting with the network card.

My grad work was in “optical computing” back in the 90’s, where I built a Li:Nb (lithium niobate) ring-resonator for a lab project over spring break. Of course, the crystals were ~1cm^3… so on a *very* different scale! ;) That micro-ring resonator tech looks SO cool… we would’a killed for stuff like that back then! Back then we thought that photonic applications in computing were the ‘next-big-thing’ b/c Moore’s Law was ending. Uhhh… only off by a few decades. Thx for nerding out on photonics… so glad to see the evolution from decade-to-decade. (And yes, the optical puns never get old!)

I think that the “light” revolution in chip design is far more useful than the backside power and shrinking our old technology to 2 or 1 nanometers

Jensen came soo close to saying "Cellular, modular, interactivodular"... and it meant almost as much on the surface. I like how this channel gives the context and meaning for a lot of the various gnostic utterings coming from tech companies.

I designed a light based processor back in 1982 and had a 2 bit processor working in 1984! It had a no op, go a head, fall off, and wait! I use it for paper on a machine puts "Bird's Eye" on a carton! So blast you unbelievers!

When I was in EE school, back in 1980's I understood we needed to get copper out of the then CPU's, and I studied Fiber Optics as an elective. AT&T was just starting to install lots of Fiber. I thought it would be only 5 years away and everyone would have Fiber Opitcs in their house and CPU's. I was wrong of course but, , , , Now I'm glad we have gotten here.
