I have spent the last 20+ years in the salon industry, tech and fashion. I left the industry at some point to become a Fireman and Aux. Police Officer. I did 6 years service and resigned shortly after 9/11.

0:55 and I think thats mainly the problem. I know what the finished project is it's not there yet. So finding a barber/stylist who understands what you're trying to accomplish. But ive also had resistance when I barely have an inch of length

My hairdresser always just asks "What are we doing today?" I wish they asked more questions like this. I always show them where I want the hair to fall so there's no guessing.

I love to cut my own hair So I invested in some tools I worked for, I style it the way I want and learn to fade and do basics haircuts on me and my brothers and on my school property dreamed off becoming a barber and but I need to get back to HS And keep pushing no matter the circumstances

What if you don’t know what you want? Is the stylist/barber able to help you figure out what would work well for your hair and face if you ask them?

What I started doing over the years is also figure out if the hairsalon is able to work with my hairtype. I have very thick, dark, heavy, wavy hair, and it's super uncommon where I live. It's hard to find a hairdresser who knows my hairtype, so I prefer to go in person to make the appointment and ask if there is a hairstylist there who can work with my hair before making the appointment, just to be sure.
Another is to ask if there is a hairstylist who can cut the type of haircut you want. I used to have hair on the longer end (at least for guys), and also realized over the years there are a lot of hairdressers who know so little about longer hairstyles. Same when I went to get a mohawk, I asked if there was a hairdresser who knew how to cut more punk hairstyles and I got the owner himself because he had more experience with those kinds of hairstyles than most of the other hairdressers in that hairsalon. Or when I wanted a pattern in my undercut, I asked specifically for a hairstylist who had experience doing that.

So doing research on your own also helps.

In my experince no barber cut my hair the way I envision. They often put the fade too high, I already tried to show a reference photo. I prefer my hair after 1 or 2 months after haircut because they ofen cut too short too.

Any tips on my hair looking better in the evening, I wash it every morning with shampoo and conditioner and I think that’s my problem but just wanted to know what to do

I have a question: so even if I grow my hair out for like 2 1/2 months, the sides of my hair just stick out. At the top of my sides (if that makes sense) the hair lays flat but then as it goes lower, it sticks out. I’ve tried using some products but the sides still don’t stick down. Any advice?
