Malenia is basically a walking Sekiro reference.

She does this.
She has an arm severed and replaced by prosthetic like Sekiro.
She reborns in a flower-based effect like Sekiro-does a little less flashy.
She is rotting with Scarlet Rot and spreads it everywhere as Sekiro does with Dragon Rot.
She basically protects a divine childlike figure as Sekiro does.

No wonder she's such a pain in the ass to fight. She's a Sekiro boss.. in what amounts to a Dark Souls game.

Here's hoping Sekiro gets a sequel, and they don't screw with the combat.

Now that i think about it, there’s also moves like the thrusting move that can be mikiri countered, the moves where she shorten her sword then slash 4-5 times, the kick that would take a hugh amount of players posture and knocking them down, this boss is Sekiro material, also adding the fact that if she heals if she hits you, even if u block means u have to break her posture to win and u cant do chip damage then run away, cuz there is still the waterfowl dance that cant be fully deflected

My theory on her has always been that she was a repurposed Tomoe fight. They had planned the fight out or at least some elements of it and then it got put in elden ring instead. Even the name “waterfowl dance” fits extremely well into tomoe’s lore

meteoric ore blades strong attack is just ichimonji + double if you use it twice.
Edit: Also found out Raptors of the Mist is the feather from Sekiro I know there's another one like Rivers of blood but I forgor.

I think she learns this ability because of someone from the land of reeds. so technically it is the same Ability.

I played Sekiro after Elden Ring and I soooo wish she was a Sekiro boss. I think it would make for a great fight and possibly one of game’s best

I'm glad I'm not the only madman out there thinking this. Not only this move, but also lots of other moves really resemble the combat style of Sekiro. Even the damned kick has the same particles.

Also worth pointing out, one of the senpou arts, the one that involves a spinning kick, malenia uses often in phase 2, i was so happy to see that made it to the game

Malenia on Wiki: "At some point, Malenia encountered a blind swordsman who had sealed away an Outer God of Rot. The swordsman became her master, and trained her in the ways of the blade."

In Sekiro there's the Dragon Rot, brought by an Outer God (the divine Dragon). If you remember, Sekiro at the end of the game wants to reach the west, where the dragon came from. After this he may have encountered Malenia, and teached her his techniques

In elden ring you have Bloodborne and Sekiro bosses but you still having the same movement and combat from dark souls, it's like running a olympic race with the legs broken.

Fromsoft being Fromsoft, Melania could be many things. My favorites are.
- Melania is actually Tomoe, or the repurposed idea that they had for her. I'm sure they (somewhat) knew what they wanted Tomoe's fight to be, and Melania fits perfectly. Just replace all rot effects with lightning.
- She could be a "cross system" test of sorts. Fromsoft has slowly been ramping up the pace of traditional Souls Combat, at times taking pretty big steps. From Dark Souls 1 to Bloodborne, complete game changer in terms of pace and gameplay. Then they try that formula out in Dark Souls 3 with Sister Freide, but with "traditional" mechanics. Jump to Sekiro and then to Elden Ring, same thing. Pacing ramped up, and the stagger mechanic came with it. They're slowly changing the formula, which I absolutely love. Keeps it from getting stale. Each game feels similar, yet unique.
