In this video I will show you how I check or top off How to transmission fluid on a 2010-2017 GMC Terrain 2.4L. This procedure should work on all GM vechicles with 2.4L.

Great job lighting the work areas and placing and focusing the camera so that everyone could clearly see and understand exactly what you were doing; thanks also for the excellent narration of a simple process that GM decided to make very tedious to undertake.

Good video. Bringing the engine up to temp, the transmission fluid will lag engine temp by 40-50F. According to GM SI, the fluid needs to be at least 175F when checking. Your scan tools will tell you the transmission temp. If you drive in 2nd gear in low speeds for 10-15 minutes this will usually bring the fluid temp up to spec. Idling will not do it.

Let me get this straight:
Just put the car into a shop, jack it up. Remove the tire, use the worlds longest ratchet extensions, cycle through all the gears with the car running then have seven people assist you to fill transmission fluid into your car with a customized funnel through a network of hoses and engine components until you drip fluid all over the place.

Then once your floor is completely soaked in transmission fluid, fiddle with the customized one of a kind plug and somehow snake your arms into the transmission and get the piece back in without dropping it into the huge puddle of transmission fluid on your shop floor.

Drive the car for three days until you have noticed that most of the fluid you out in has leaked out, and repeat the process!

EZ PZ.

Man, I'm missing the days when you could use a dipstick, just like the engine oil.

Great video and easy. One question at what time exactly do you cycle the transmission.? After drain or right before draining trans oil?

The Haynes manual says a drain and fill =5.2 quarts. Thoughts?

Very good video for the 2017 Chevrolet Equinox lt 2.4l. Thank you.
Since it sounds like you did a fluid change, it would be helpful to me (and others) if you could make a video showing how to do that. Then you can link this video to that and cover it all.

Thanks again,
ZMan

So did you drain all the fluid first then add some new fluid to the level plug. Then cycle gears then add fluid till it comes out? Or was this just more of a top off video?

Temp of oil is supposed to be between 180-200° while checking fluid level via that hole correct?

have you tried the latest DEX VI synthetic fluid?

I'm old enough to remember when we just pulled the dipstick out, checked the level, added as needed and moved on. All done with the wheels on the ground. No help needed. SMH

Thanks for doing this video. I was wondering about my 2016 Equinox. Other videos show a hard to access transmission fluid dipstick and fill port.  I was nervous I had Vavoline Instant oil change do this a few months ago. I located the fill port cap just like the one in your video. . They stuck a straw in and pumped out brown fluid and put in the new fluid.

The question I was wondering. If you look to the 4' o clock position off the fill cap in this video at 3:39 there is a hole that looks like it has some screw threads. What is that for?

Hey bro thanks for the video
The service manual does not say how much transmission fluid you have to put in right ?
Or if you have to have it at some specific temperature right ?

Here's what I did. It's cheap and easy. My equinox 2015. I drained the old transmission fluid at 56k miles. It was bad!! Step one.
Find your drain plug and your fill cap. "YouTube"
Step two. Buy five quarts of dexron VI full synthetic.
Step three. Open the drain plug and drain all the oil out in a oil pan.
Step four. Put plug back in and fill with the exact amount of oil removed with new oil.
Step five. Drive 1k miles and repeat.
That's it. $80 in fluid and 45 minutes of your time. You just made your transmission fluid like new.. if you want do it again 1k miles later. It's like new at that point. You will be at $110 in oil still less then a shop and you know its done right.
