The free lunches and breakfast helped me so much in schools. I am very grateful for those. I remember going hungry all day in schools in my early years before my mother got approved for it.

I'm homeless right now. I'm currently staying in a hotel but last week I was on the streets. Even though I'm not in a spot to be giving myself, whenever someone asked me for money for food, I couldn't say no, because I've been there. Plus I'm on food stamps now which takes the burden off of spending money on food and drinks. I don't know if it's good for me but I just want to help if I have any cash to spare at all (more than one cash bill)... I gave one guy a $20 and one girl around my age a $5. They were both very appreciative and it still felt good to help even though I'm also in a tough spot.

What cracks me up is that schools giving children free lunch seems to be an issue. Yet nobody is complaining about how grocery stores have the nerve to ask customers to donate to their “charity”.

When ever i got money given to me being homeless i went and did laundry and bought fresh dry dog food. It was heavenly having clean blankets and fresh cloths. And i still think of those people as angles every day. Thank the gods for that kindness, it really helped lift up some hope in a hopeless situation.

I once heard someone say instead of being concerned about them using the money to buy alcohol drugs maybe more concerned by the fact that we live in a country with no resources to help them. At the end of the day, addiction is a medical health issue (like diabetes or cancer) and should be treated as such... I'll be honest I don't remember where I heard it, but ever since I have no problem giving someone money if I have it

One time my friend lectured me about how I should give homeless people food instead of money. They claimed that I am basically k*lling homeless people by giving them money because they are gonna use it to feed their drug addiction. Like I don’t care where my money goes. If a homeless person decides to buy drugs instead of food, that’s on them. I give money so that people who are less fortunate than me can buy literally anything they want. I’d rather them get something they want than give them food that they may not like or be allergic to. I’m not “k*lling” people by giving them cash.

My perspective has always been: if I give money to someone I believe to be in need, and they're lying to me, that's on their conscious, not mine. I helped someone and they (maybe) lied 🤷‍♂️.
