I have a feeling this set is going to be very fondly remembered by players who get into the game with it, it seems like a perfect encapsulation of magic

I think it's feeling at about the right place for a long-term set. There's not much in it that is going to be jammed into *every* deck so that you get sick of seeing it, or big 'feel bads' like exile sweepers, but it still provides solid staples. Calling it 'foundations' really hit the nail on the head I think. They delivered on that design intent. It's providing a lot of cards that can make up the base of a build but not cards that will define builds.

I played magic yesterday for the first time at the foundations pre-release and I'm hooked. Really appreciated the keywords having their rules on the cards. Loved watching these fancy cards getting pulled, that japanese one is fire.

"French Vanilla" to describe a creature card that just has keywords but no activated/triggered abilities may be the best term I've ever heard and one I'm definitely using from this day forward.

I think Foundations was a wonderful idea to make Standard more accessible. But they immediately blew that with 6 standard sets a year so we're right back to Standard not being a paper-viable format.

Hare Apparrent is the most rare common in the set it seems haha. Actually more rare than some of the rares and mythics. I like how it's an actual chase card 😆

Oh, I just thought of a combo. Maybe a little too cute. It's an upgrade on a deck that I already have.
Amongst other cards the deck already runs:
- 3× The Skullspore Nexus
- 4× Pugnacious Hammerskull
- 4× Ixalli's Lorekeeper
- 2× Intrepid Paleontologist
- 4× Belligerent Yearling
So, we do also have Gigantosaurus in the starter collection. If we can fling it with Callous Sell-Sword that'd be cool. But let us double it's power with 'The Skullspore Nexus' beforehand, and then we might be talking. Plus, when it dies, then we get a 20/20 token. Paleontologist can return Gigantosourus for re-casting. Also powerful if a Yearling is already in play.
I don't know if 'Llanowar Elves' should be put in instead of Lorekeeper, or if it's an addition, because Gigantosaurus is 5×G mana. In a gruul deck that'd usually be a nogo. Or maybe it's 2× Paleontologist more.
Btw, Hammerskull can make Nexus cost only 2 mana to cast. A potential t3 play. The re-printed Ghalta and 'Twinflame Tyrant' could also be potential candidates for the deck. But again, this might all be a little too cute hehe 😅

Honestly, the cost of purchasing boxes really feels more expensive than buying singles for me. I get what I want without all the chaff. I do miss the fun though. Love your content by the way.

I am really hyped for this set! I saved 300 euros for this one. Which is hella lot for me to spend on MTG.
