Former U.S. intelligence contractor, turned whistleblower, Edward Snowden has been granted Russian citizenship.
This follows the signing of a decree by Russian President Vladimir Putin on Monday.
In a tweet uploaded on Tuesday, Snowden expressed relief at "a little stability" and asked for privacy.
The 39-year-old, who faces U.S. espionage charges, fled to Russia in 2013 after leaking classified documents.
Those documents showed the U.S. National Security Agency had conducted surveillance on millions of Americans' phone records.
That surveillance was later ruled unlawful.
Snowden's lawyer says that as he hasn't served in the Russian military, he won't be called up in Russia's partial mobilization.

Wonderful! Whistleblower should be protected, not prosecuted.

Hero - if there is corruption internally then the American people deserve to know before the empire declines.

Too late, America is slowly declining at its peak of progress.

All empires fall eventually.
