How to Build Tracer for Shaper Trace

Shaper Trace is a tool/app that instantly converts drawings to digital files for CNC and similar machines (laser cutters, vinyl cutters, etc.). The digital file created by Shaper Tracer is entirely faithful to the drawing used to create the file, so you want to start with a good drawing. The gadget in this video - I call it the “Tracer” - is meant to make it easier to get a good drawing from a physical object.

You might need to create an account to access the project files, but it is free to do so. The project lists all of the materials and tools needed, including links to purchase the materials.

Keep watching this Shaper Trace thing. So, you trace something on paper to put it in an expensive frame to take a photo to make that trace digital. I have been doing this for years with my 40 dollar flat bed scanner and some free apps for years. Some things I don’t even need to trace first. And, I can scan photos, documents, my butt…. Seams this trace thing is a product looking for a solution. I guess it is more portable because we all make mobile shops……..
