My vet told me to give my dog chicken and rice after a bout with pancreatitis. I am now making his dog food with rice, chicken or turkey, sweet potatoes, peas, spinach, carrots, eggs, ground flax seed. Hoping he will be healthier rather than giving him kibble. Lord knows what’s in it these days. Too many recalls even on expensive food.

Ok we’ve been feeding my dog like some kind of special kibble. I don’t know much about it personally but it’s what my parents have me get. I know my dog was diagnosed with pancreatitis but he hasn’t eaten in days! He’s 10 years old and he’s a Great Dane. How do I make him eat?? 😭 and he’s been really sick and I just want to make him better. Please pray for Duke

This video was more informative than our vet trip. Thank you so much! I learned a lot, and have also eased some anxiety I had about my pup's pancreatitis

This is a great synopsis, Thanks many! I have been living with this for 11 months since diagnosis and I keep learning...
I have a Jack Russel with chronic pancreatitis and it been real hard.
I had 2 until April of last year, and the one that passed was 15 so had a great long life, though was enormous and died of heart failure. Don't give your dogs human food. unless you KNOW it's safe.

My dog became sensitive to all kibble and rice because of the chemicals and preservatives that are in the kibble and any feathered meat . Pork is too high in fat content. So we have to feed beef and buffalo. Lamb depletes their taurine. We are walking a delicate path with our schnauzer to prevent flare ups. She been better with the total raw diet but even with that we have to be very careful.

Almost certainly carbohydrate related. Wild canines consume practically zero carbs. We know from human nutrition that when you consume fats with carbs, the body will use glucose from carbs first, leaving the fats to circulate in the blood or be stored (often leading to fatty liver). Eliminating carbs will allow the body to burn fats for energy so they don't accumulate. Commercial dog kibble can contain 40% or more carbohydrates. This leads to chronic high insulin levels, insulin resistence, diabetes, and overworked pancreas. Eliminate carbs and vast majority of pancreatitis cases will be resolved. Low fat diets only hide the real problem until it becomes diabetes; shortening life span and leading to high vet & medication bills (and a miserable family member)!

It is no longer thought appropriate to withhold food and certainly not water.

There is so much inaccurate information and bad advice in this video it's sad. If your dog has pancreatitis don't listen to this video.
