Like Larry Bird said, Magic Johnson was the greatest of all time. The only player who could have been a Hall of Famer at any position. He didn't score 20+ per game often since his job was to get his teammates involved. He could have averaged 25-30+ points per game if he wanted. Earvin (like Larry and Michael) was a once in a lifetime talent.

Great reaction and greater analysis. Defenders didn't know the angle to take on Magic because he could score but could also pass like no one we've ever seen. And he was so creative that defenders were easily embarrassed. He made some of the greatest perimeter defenders in the history of the sport look bad.

Well, for people that say that Lebron is as good a passer as Magic... HELL NO!!!! Are you damn blind people??? It's not even close... it's stupid comparison... the only guy that could pass as good as Magic or to be fair close to Magic, cause Magic is THE BEST passer of all time, was Larry Bird... and if you don't understand why go watch some Bird clips...


People overreact to today's players and hugely disrespect legends of the 80's or 90's or even 2000's (man, I'm telling you... Tim Duncan is NEVER mentioned... and he's probably the best big man of all time... not to mention people call Kobe an "inefficient shot chucker" nowadays... the man has 5 damn rings!!!)

No argument here. My top 5 are Jordan, Abdul-Jabbar, James, Bird, Magic!! In that order. And 6 through 10 are Wilt, Russell, Duncan, Olajuwon, & Shaq!!

Much is made of Bird vs Magic, as it should be. Lakers fans give Magic the nod because he was 2-1 against Bird, and he had more rings overall. Fair argument.

But, I call it a tie because of two things.

1.) Back then, the East was brutal. It was a far tougher road for the Celtics even to make the finals.

2.) The old time basketball logic is that you need three great players and five who won't hurt you in order to field a great team. Both the Lakers and the Celtics fit those requirements. Both had three Hall of Famers, and some very good role and bench players.

*But* are we really going compare Bird/McHale/Parish to Magic/Kareem/Worthy? Six great players, but damn sure not equal. Can we really compare the next five guys on those Laker teams to the next five on the Celtics? Again, both great, but absolutely not equal.

I think Larry was slightly better as a 3 than Magic was as a 1. I think Magic was easily the more versatile player.

Bottom line, they were the two best ever. I can't honestly say which was better, and neither can they. Each of them has said publicly that the other is the better player.

The only thing I know, is that both of them would destroy everyone today. No question.
