Okay so if I got it correctly:
- Team got an injured member.
- They could have fielded replacements but chose not to because the possible subs were competing the next day.
- Essentially, they could sub for the team event that they probably wouldn't win anyway and in the process tire out the subs giving them a disadvantage in their own individual competition the next day.
- They had to go through the motions of touching the apparatus to signify that they still competed.
- The Swiss thing comes in because the Swiss team came in 9th in the qualifier (top 8 teams advance, so they barely missed making the cut), and some people feel it was disrespectful.
- The team offered the spot to the Swiss but since it all happened on the day of the event, the Swiss couldn't cobble a team together, resulting in this team just throwing in the towel like this.

Nothing controversial here. The rules were the rules and if the Swiss wanted to compete in the finals then they should've performed better, that's all.

I find this very distasteful. And it reminds me of the various baseball hitters who risked losing the batting championship if they batted on the last day, but went ahead and did it anyway. That’s being a sportsman.
