Welcome Salida, MD (Medical Dog)

Our Child Life team at Children's Hospital Colorado, Colorado Springs, welcomed its newest team member last week! Salida, a Labrador retriever, is our newest Medical Dog. She will support patients receiving care in our southern Colorado region. Alongside her primary handler, Luzie, she will provide support to the Colorado Springs Hospital in the emergency department (ED), pediatric intensive care unit (PICU), Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders, medical/surgical units and in radiology.

Salida will also make trips to our Therapy Care location at Telstar one day per week. Alongside her secondary handler, Shannon, she'll provide support to patients participating in day treatment programs within the Pediatric Mental Health Institute and in outpatient therapy.

In Salida's spare time, you'll find her chasing tennis balls and enjoying endless belly rubs!
