President Rodrigo Roa Duterte urges his fellow Leaders from the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) to exert all efforts in keeping peace and stability across the region amid the ongoing effects of the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) as he participates in the 39th ASEAN Summit via virtual convention on October 26, 2021.
With the ongoing situation in Myanmar, President Duterte encourages the ASEAN-Member States to focus on all comprehensive recovery assistance and stand with the country to resolve the conflict peacefully while prioritizing the welfare of its people. He then calls on all parties in Myanmar to engage in a constructive dialogue with the ASEAN.
Also, the Chief Executive reiterates his stand on the West Philippine Sea, saying that the Philippines pushes for a peaceful resolution in the disputed territories in accordance with the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) and the 2016 Arbitral Award.
Chaired by Brunei Darussalam, this year’s 39th ASEAN Summit is anchored on the theme, ‘We Care, We Prepare, We Prosper.’ Due to the ongoing public health emergency in Southeast Asia, all meetings relative to the ASEAN Summit are held via virtual convention.
