What other games would you like me to do a Parental Guide on?

Speaking as someone who has been playing vrchat for a little over a year now: I don't have any kids myself, but if I did, I personally wouldn't want them anywhere near vrchat till they were at least 15 or 16+. While it's generally as safe as any online social platform can be, there are quite a few...weird people on it...What you always have to remember if/when you play is that behind all those avatars you see running around are real people, and while most are decent enough, not all of them are sadly. There are some who seem to get a kick out running around in public worlds and shouting the most offensive stuff they can think of to try and get a rise out of the other people in that instance. As an adult, it's nothing I'm not used to by now, and I've learned to ignore the trolls, and even block them if necessary, but I can imagine that for someone much younger who doesn't have the same amount of life experience as I do, that alone would be overwhelming, and sadly that's just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the trolls. So I would say to think of a public world in vrchat the same way you would of any public space irl: While most of the people there are decent humans who wouldn't even consider trying to hurt another person, unfortunately there will be some who are a little more dangerous. And until you get to know someone, you don't really know for sure which is which. So above all else, have fun, but also be cautious.

I have been playing this for a while now and I think that you can play if you can handle it. I remember this game being chaotic but when I go online now it’s not as chaotic as it used to be. I don’t own any children but it mostly depends on
age and how well you can handle some stuff on the game.

If you wouldn’t leave your kid unattended at a public park, you shouldn’t leave them alone in VRC.

I spend my days on VRC, but i would NEVER let my kid in there before the age of 15 if not under supervision. At 15, I estimate they will be old enough to understand what is going on.

I think if they’re under 13, just don’t play. Unless someone is supervising them or something. When I was 13 I played a movie theater world with my half-sister, who was 11 and she was fine.

A younger family member was over one day and, having already used an Oculus at her young age and wanted to see what I play, I put her into invite only instances with just her in there. I showed her the McDonalds world, a very basic SFW avatar world, a few of my avatars that are appropriate, and Musical Flowers (a world where you can use a stick to hit flowers that make sound). She was being supervised the entire time and, overall, she really enjoyed it.
That is the extent I would allow a child up to age 16 to be able to use VRChat.
After age 16, I would choose the world for them and have discussions to prepare them for certain spaces by warning them about adults, language, and everything else this video says. I would supervise them all the time and show them all ages music events (like Slyfest), really beautiful worlds, or very fun game worlds that they could experience with a few other older teen friends they know in real life or a few adults I know very well in real life or really well on VRC that would keep them safe and be respectful to them.
After age 18, it's fair game but I would still want my young adult to be prepared for being pressured to drink before the legal age, being pressured to ERP/overly sexual things said to them, and make sure they know how to block people and stand up for themselves.

If parents are wondering if their kids should be able to use VR Chat, the parents should go in VR Chat for at *least* an hour and see if they would let their child use it. Have some chats with people that have been there for a while and ask them what it's like.

Edit: They should head to I think it's called Black Cat for a few minutes. You know, the place people always reget going to when they first join.

I went on Gorilla Tag to check it out trying to find a game my kids would like and see how it all worked...we just got the headset a few days ago. I was harassed by some pervy twerps. I didn't realize how the chat and like this whole VR world would be like. Total newb here. Thanks for your videos!

Great video! So basically at the end in my opinion if your child is at least 9 or is about to turn 10 or 11 you can at least give them permission to download VR chat because now they know all the stuff that you taught them and they are now going to be much more mature

Personally, after playing it once, i don't want to go into that game ever again and wouldn't want my hypothetical kid to be in it either

Good video! vr chat do have alot of bad people but I don’t care about them ruining my fun, I found friends there (still chatting with them) we do alot of vr activities like playing Rp games, become mirror staring psychopathes for some reason and play other games instead of vrchat on the discord server.

I've been on VRChat for the first time and I was horrified by a lot of what I heard. Adults using very lewd language and portraying sexual acts, kids who were starting arguments with other players and calling them the 'N' word, and a small group of kids being harassed by an adult, which I had to break up (I felt like I was baby sitting). I definitely think it should be Adults Only/18+. There's absolutely a risk of kids being groomed, as well as there being some utter weirdos on there that could really freak them out. On the other side of the coin, as I said a lot of the kids are just plain annoying and trying to get a reaction from other older players, which just ruins the whole experience. So 100% - NO KIDS!
