Cultures and Societies of the Middle East and North Africa' Trinity Elective - Dr Anne Fitzpatrick, Tylor Brand & Murat Siviloglu, School of Languages, Literatures and Cultural Studies, in this Elective, you will unpack the foundations of western perceptions of the Middle East and North African region where do these perceptions come from, and why have they dominated our ideas for so long? You will also discover how people in the Middle East and North Africa perceive western interventions in the region – both historical and contemporary interventions. In this Elective, you can expect to be part of a lively research team engaging with a student group in the Middle East to understand your own ideas and to hear how it feels from the other side. This module aims to prepare you to engage with the region more fluently on its own terms as a global citizen. Trinity Electives are stand-alone 5 ECTS modules outside of students’ core disciplines.
