Dexter: Original Sin episode 7 has finally provided the answer to one of the main mysteries of the Dexter prequel series: who killed Jimmy Powell and abducted Aaron Spencer's son, Nicky?

The kidnapping case witnessed several changes in Original Sin episode 7, with Nicky attacking his assailant despite losing a finger and Dexter discovering a drop of the kidnapper's blood on the box. Even though Dexter was able to identify the murderer, the twist villain in Original Sin and his motivations require further clarification.

The startling turn of events in Dexter: Original Sin, which involved the murder of Jimmy Powell and the abduction of Nicky Spencer, requires some explanation. Dexter: Original Sin is a prequel, yet it still manages to shock and astonish its viewers in a lot of ways. The prequel show has been full of surprises, from Original Sin retconning Dexter's third kill to perhaps featuring a cameo from Brian Moser. Its most significant twist occurred in episode 7 of Original Sin, and it was so startling that it might need to be explained.

Captain Aaron Spencer killed Jimmy Powell and abducted Nicky Spencer, according to what Dexter put together. Nicky used the bucket handle in his cell to make a shank earlier in the episode, which he then used to stab his abductor in the wrist. Dexter made the connection after noticing the bandage on Aaron's arm and discovering the murderer's blood on the box that held Nicky's finger. Then, Original Sin went one step further and depicted Aaron purchasing the identical packed food that Jimmy and Nicky were served by the abductor.

As of right now, Dexter is the only one who has any suspicions about Captain Spencer. His and Nicky's blood types matched, as Aaron noted, which may be sufficient to persuade Tanya Martin and Vince Masuka to seek further proof. Aaron is an even less plausible suspect because of his excellent performance of acting distraught during the inquiry. Miami Metro might not be able to show Aaron is the murderer at all because Dexter's sole evidence to date is entirely circumstantial.

Aaron Spencer was identified as the murderer in Original Sin, although his motivations were not disclosed. It's possible that Aaron killed Jimmy Powell after kidnapping him to dispel suspicions about Nicky's abduction. When a child with divorced parents is abducted, the police frequently suspect one of the parents right away. However, Miami Metro investigators concluded right once that Nicky's kidnapping was by the same cartel that killed Jimmy. It is also far more plausible that the cartels would target Aaron's son given his history of being tough on them.

Aaron could have had a backup motive for accusing the cartels of being responsible for Nicky's abduction and Jimmy's death. At Miami Metro, both of the kidnappings were a real pain in the ass. Angel Batista and Bobby Watt stated that they are pursuing the Los Tigres cartel with all of their resources in an attempt to locate their safe haven. It's possible that Aaron Spencer singled out the cartels to pressure Miami Metro to take action against them. The police captain and the cartels most likely still have a relationship, and Aaron could have been acting just to permanently imprison the cartels.

Crazy that Spencer would cut his own son's finger. That's sick.

This feels like the same Dexter recipe we all know and love again to me! Multiple plots progressing at the same time until they reach a climax and one big villain per season, which at some point (only) Dexter figures out and get dangerously close.

This has to be the best episode, I had a feeling Spencer was the killer but then I also thought it would’ve been the head of Forensics Tanya.

Just watched the episode. I DIDN'T wanna believe it. Like, yeah, i saw people pointing it out in theory videos, but i just brushed it off, saying: "No way he would have done this just because he got divorced and lost custody of the kid". Now, looking back, Judge Powell rooted for the wife, and betrayed Spencer in the worst kind of way (probably getting him jailed or something), that's why he went on a fucking spiral.

Watching Dexter: Original Sin made me forget how fucked in their head some people can be. Now i am reminded that you can't trust anyone. HOLY SHIT.

officer clark must be the other serial killer, his brother shot when he was 14 (born in blood). I think he was hunting while dexter met him outside the bar while chasing levi reed. He is disgusted by what he is and theres the fact that his parents deny him. These are passionate crimes. And at this point in the show (3 episodes left), the killer must have been introduced, i cant see anyone else to fit the profile

My bet is the first thing Dexter does next episode is take his finding to Harry,

It is odd. Was the first kid a practice run? Quite an elaborate scheme, to likely hurt his wife. Perhaps his intention is to frame her new man?

I immediately went to self exit when i saw the bloody wrist bandage. I think it may be one once Capt knows Dexter is on to him....and i bet DNA reveals he isn't Nickys Father will be the reason too. Too much of a Retcon otherwise.

I knew it would be someone that's close to one of the main characters.

I was hoping it's not Deb's boyfriend cuz she's already been through so much with being engaged to the ice trick killer, seeing Lundy die, finding out about Dex

I thought it was either Tanya or Spencer, then I saw the masked killer and it was clearly a man. They retcon'd some key things and I think Dexter is going to kill Spencer and that's what drives Harrys heart attack. I also have a theory that Tanya and Spencer are potentially doing this together and that may be the HUGE reveal.

Aaron has political ambitions. I think he is blaming the cartel, so when he starts getting more serious about charging them etc, it will look good for the general public when it comes to vote.

This episode was the worst! This show is great but this episode just felt off! That flashback after dexter learned the truth was terrible!!! Felt like a Bollywood moment 😂.
