Excellent lecture, I have only recently joined the LP and this is the most informative video I have come across. Dr. Higgs gives multiple examples to illustrate war and the growth of government and the loss of our liberties

Libertarian or not, anyone who wants to understand how state works should watch this lecture. Moreover, the way Higgs presents his thoughts and arguments can be clearer than any crystalline piece of water.

I never have had the privilege of meeting Dr. Higgs in person, but I have learned so much from his writing, and from getting to know him through social media! He has done so much for the cause of liberty, and I don't think he gives himself enough credit. :)

The United States intervened militarily in WWI to protect the interests of Wall St investors who had lent money to Britain and France and thus for whom a German victory would mean significant financial losses.
- Why is this not even mentioned?
- Do Austrians economists and libertarians disagree with how this self interest was operating?

To reduce US war to the "self interest" of the State surely an the lecture should have shown there is no "self interest" in operation.
