We all know who is going to spend the christmas holidays sweeping up broken glass baubles from around the tree🤣Thanks for sharing.

Dad: I found these light, soft pom poms. Crisis averted!
Kids: Hey look! Gravel!

Awesome! Nothing better than a toy that Dad made. When I was a kid ( a half century ago ) my brother and I made a sling shot from a very large tree branch and a bicycle inner tube. Problem was, we couldn't determine how far, or where, the rock were going. We decided this wasn't a good idea!

Fond memories!
My dad made us a positively lethal slingshot using surgical tubing. We leaned some scrap OSB against a monster tree at the back of the property and shot it from an elevated deck 10m away. The ball bearings punched straight through. We quickly switched to chestnuts when we started being unable to find the bearings. In retrospect, that was probably a good idea given that our yard backed onto a hydro substation.
All this to say, you're an admirably responsible dad Matthias!

You could also use wood beads from the craft shop. And a suggestion? Paint each kids ammo a different color, no fights, and if something does get broken, you know who to punish and who to blame (you, that's who to blame, you gave them a weapon!).

I always look forward to your Christmas ideas. They are original and never promise “make money from your scraps.” Thank you for sharing your ideas!

You built 30 wooden balls BEFORE testing the lethality? Ha ha it was fun to see all the trials and errors to make them though.

Another great video! Love the pom poms as ammo in the end!

Fun project! I used to love playing with my dad's slingshot, which used BBs as a kid. Instead, use dried peas or beans as projectiles.

I applaud Matthias for showing some trust in his kids, and for giving then scope to make mistakes.

Hi Matt!
I cracked up when you got to your "pretend CNC." Interesting concept on holding the rubber bands in, I love it. Hey! About your varnish jar, cut a shopping bag into squares slightly larger than your jar lids and then place the square between the lid and the jar. I have been doing this for years and it made life easier. I have to thank Colin Knecht for this tip!
Best Wishes and Take Care,
Tom
P.S. Think about buying a lock for the parts bins where you store steel nuts!

Thy Matias, I remember as a kid walking over the rail roads looking for round pebbles. Have fun outside with your kids. They will remember it forever.

“So the projectiles wouldn’t do so much harm”
Obviously, most adults now, grew up with the understanding that most of the fun to be had, required some bit of harm.

Wish I could be there when your kids start watching your videos and learn what their Dad made toys really can do!

For a kids power slingshot, I love your idea of anchoring the bands to nails. This brings back to mind the paperclip slingshots my buddy and I made in about 6th grade. We'd shoot staples out of them, and had a bag of about 100 that we made to sell to friends at school 😂 They were harmless, but that resulted in a brief assembly where everyone had to turn in their slingshots 😂😂

I use a slingshot and ball bearings to scare black bears away from my cabin. I don't target the bear, just the bushes around them they get confused by it and leave. Great design and I am not surprised the elastic attachment took the longest to figure out, it is the weakest point in the device. My slingshot is a commercial one sold as a weapon to dispense vermin. It is dangerous because it uses thick walled latex tubing.

The nail holding the rubber bands captive is so simple but genius.
