The non-primitive example you gave isn't a unit cell though since repeating that at each lattice point(where lattice points are at the center of both atoms) doesn't maintain translational symmetry and hence aren't appropriately replicated
To find the non-primitive unit cell in this case, we'd need to consider the rectangle with the same colored atoms which would give us a rectangle with atoms at the edge centers and one atom at the body center
The primitive cell of this exact crystal would now connect 4 atoms of the same color with an atom of a different color in the middle to give a parallelogram
This also ends up minimising the volume like you said

😢 you just repeat only one thing
And desicribe it with different examples.
Primitive cell contain only one lattice points.
Non primitive cell contain more than 1 lattice points.
