He is the definition of โ€œa nice guyโ€ these days.

He chose to sleep with her and yet blamed her for his transgression, wanted her to abandon everything for him, her family her duty etc for his own selfish reasons, and turned against her when it suited him, betrayed her the first chance he got. The actor is great, making me nauseous every time I see sir Criston On screen โœจ.

not him blaming a child for something thatโ€™s his fault๐Ÿ’€ he didnโ€™t have to break his vows & sleep with her, literally nobody forced him

Criston Cole doesn't actually love Rhaenyra. He was upset about breaking his vow. but as soon as alicent stopped him, he became a cruel opposition to Rhaenyra, which makes it clear that he never loved her.

Loveโ€ฆ. You sold her out first chance you could speak

I know people sees him as a proto-incel for this, and I thought like that before as well but... Rhaenyra was the one with all the power in this relantionship. He is dornish, he comes from a minor house, he has no safety net. He was not in position to refuse a princess. One word from rhaenyra and he could be executed. The problem is that Rhaenyra does not understand the power imbalance here. She would never get him in trouble if he refused her, so she cannot imagine this possibility, but it is very real.

He didn't even love her. He just felt bad because he didn't even have self control to keep his vow and somehow thought that if he could get Rhaenyra to abandon her duty and marry him, he's still be honorable. Pathetic

This, ladies and gentlemen, is why you should never get into a relationship with a boss/subordinate.

I think all would have been different if she rejected his proposal politely, with empathy, telling him she can't destroy the honor of her family blabla, instead she was cruel, she was mean to him and even smile making fun of his feelings. That's why later he hated her so much and not just because he broke his vow, but because he was humiliated by her

Rhaenyra doesn't actually reject him here. The irony is that if he didn't leave her she probably would've been faithful to him like she was to Harwin.

In Criston's defense, many often forget that he's a commoner and that means that things like honor, duty, religion probably mean more to him than to the nobles who know it's all fake. The nobles look on things like secret affairs more favorably which is why someone from Rhaenyra, Laenor, Joffrey, or Jaime's (From original GOT) background would be more open to it than Criston. It tore at him more than it did any of them. When he can't save his honor he tries to kill himself which shows how seriously he takes it. I guess another irony here is that the peasants are more conservative than the nobles. ๐Ÿ˜… You can't really blame him for wanting to confess to someone either given his background especially if that person is Rhaenyra's step-mother or the Queen who did, in fact, keep the actual truth secret. He didn't make it public or anything. We could also discuss the extreme power imbalance between him and Rhaenyra, "no means no", and the royal family promising to not make their knights do anything that would bring them dishonor but all of those could be countered by the fact that Criston is an adult and Rhaenyra is a child so that argument could really go either way. Clearly over the years his bitterness for Rhaenyra grew tremendously but he probably didn't start feeling that way immediately after Rhaenyra didn't come with him. Given the conservativeness of his social class, he might've believed that Aegon was true heir all along and asked Rhaenyra to leave with him under the premise that it was unlikely that she would ever sit on the throne anyway.

Now obviously this doesn't change the fact that, if you support Rhaenyra, Criston betrayed her but I hope these factors give you more context as to why instead of just assuming that he's naturally a complete loser. After all, he doesn't really have an impact on Rhaenyra'a fate since he is just one man switching to the other side in a war about dragons.

Dude was so entitled. He never loved her. If you love some1, it is not a bargain- you don't hurt them so bad if they reject you that you cause their downfall. If he had loved her, he could have been furious at her rejection & still not be party to Alicent's conspiring against her. What he really wanted was to own her & when he realized she placed something above him, , it hurt his ego
