I think there's a big difference in flaunting something you're able to do vs flaunting something you have. We constantly celebrate people and their achievements, and anyone can work to accomplish it. When people show off money, it's much more shallow, and it feels like it's to compensate for their lack of talent. Not to mention, a lot of extremely wealthy people likely made that money taking advantage of other talented people.
