If I do remember the bad batch were actually good friends with him and I guess they heard about his death so to honor him they took the name 99 to keep his name and Legacy alive

99, the bad batch, and domino squad were always some of my favorites. The underdogs proving themselves through whatever it took. It's unfortunate they all faced their own tragedies though. Domino squad losing nearly everyone, 99 dying a brave man after years of abuse, and The bad batch losing their republic, friends, and having to fight their own brothers. The Clone Wars and The bad batch are great examples of brilliant storytelling including new and diverse characters.

I was introducing my sister to Star Wars. We were watching Clone Wars and she heard Hevy say Bad Batch. She got excited becuase she knew of the show called Bad Batch but not who was in it. Oh how she cried when she saw Echo return for it tho

I'm really sad that domino squad basically got annihalted during their first mission, and it's reminants were fused into the 501st. Like everyone other than echo and fives died during their first assignment ( Rishi moon).
