This is a first time for me seeing this trick. Our water is liquid rock. I will be using this trick on future jobs.

That anode rod has been replaced, there’s no way a 20+ yr old unit with 20+ grains per hardness has that intact of an anode rod

I’m a retired 30+ year plumber and I have never thought about that. Great idea and I like using transfer pumps.

This channel has helped me understand plumbing a little more in detail. My sister in laws heaters goes out every 5 years. I didn't know you have to do maintenance. She's has a well. I didn't even know it about anynoid rod .

Rheem is the longest lasting water heater I've come across. I replaced one that was 50 years old

I use a 6ft rubber washer hose with one end cut off pushed down the cold side of the water heater. It's saved my bacon a couple times!

I learned that trick over 30 years ago. I have had to use it one time in almost 38 years in the trade. Good trick to know and good video.

been working on water heaters for 30 years, I figured this out many years ago because I could not afford a plumber. I just is 1/4 cooler line but it takes a very long time.

I have a work sink nearby. Next time WH flush (or wish to drain for replacement) I will connect a y splitter with shutoffs to drain (replacement boiler drain) and connect to sink (old washing machine supply to facilitate connections) to allow back flush to clear blockages, then switch back to draining/flush.

I usually take off the T&P and run a 1/2" piece of pex with a hose bibb. It's saved me numerous times.

That is a great idea, my friend. I will use this next time I run into this situation.

I had the same problem a month ago. I am not the strongest guy but I was able to roll it onto one of those appliance dollys and drag it out to the backyard to drain it. Took about a day but it got done.

A side fed heater can be drained by shutting the water off, open a lower outside faucet, and open the T&P. It'll drain through the cold side on bottom.

When we bought our house we didn't know that there was a lime mine about half mile away from our home. Needless to say we had to replace our WH because the build up inside was way to much. What a great idea you removing the build up in the WH.
