I multiplied both sides by 100 to get rid of the decimal. 6991÷18=388.39

the simple equation should be 9/100 × 2x + 1 = 70 . after multiplying it is 18x + 1 by 100 equals 70. 18x+1 equals 7000 through transposition method. 18x equals 6991 again through transposition method. dividing 6991 by 18 to get x . we get 388.38 till 2 places of decimal

Love your vids! I was wondering, in this problem I divided both sides by 9% (.09) then solved for x to get the answer. Is this a valid alternative?

I went another way.

When 9% of something are 70, then 100% are 777, 777. So we get 2x + 1 = 777, 777.
Subtract 1 on both sides and divide by 2, so you get the result of 388, 3888.

9% of (2x + 1) = 70
This probably won't be your way of doing it
9% of WHAT is 70 ?
If 70 is 9% then 100% is 70/9 x 100
70/9 x 100 = so let's say 777.8
and now we have 2x + 1 = 777.8
2x = 776.8
x = 388.4

I came up with the same result going this route...is it fundamentally wrong, or just a different way

0.09(2x+1)=70
2x+1=70 / 0.09
2x+1 =
2x = - 1
2x =
x = / 2
x =

I don't get it.9% 0f 388 is not 70. Can you explain that again?

Nice little math problem, but I think you'd be better off skipping the example showing that 70% is 0.70. If a person hasn't a clue about what a percent is, and that 9% is actually 0.09, then I don't think they have any business trying to work out this problem. Just cut to the chase and say "first convert the percent to its decimal equivalent, then use the distributive property to help isolate the 'X'.

Looking at that makes me say piece of cake

so difficult way, why you dont use the easy way? 70 / 9= x 100 = / 2 + 1= better answer
