***************************W H A T I S D H C P **********************************

DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol) is a network management protocol used to dynamically assign an Internet Protocol (IP) address to any device, or node, on a network so they can communicate using IP. DHCP automates and centrally manages these configurations rather than requiring network administrators to manually assign IP addresses to all network devices. DHCP can be implemented on small local networks as well as large enterprise networks.

DHCP - DYNAMIC HOST CONFIGURATION PROTOCOL

**************FOR EXAMPLE*************

IP ADDRESS TO CLINETS

COMPUTER AS DHCP SERVER
POOL IP ADDRESS
192.168.1.1
192.168.1.100

COMPUTER IS ASKING FOR IP ADDRESS - DHCP WILL ASSIGN ONE UNIQUE FROM THE POOL TO REQUESTING COPUTER

DORA
DISCOVER - CLIENT WILL SEND REQUEST
OFFER -DHCP SERVER WILL OFFER ONE IP ADDRESS
REPLY - CONFIRM SERVER ABOUT IP
ACK - IT REMOVE IP FROM THE POOL

TO CONFIGURE DHCP SERVER IN LINUX

INSTALL PACKAGE---DHCPD
PORT NUBMERS - 67&68

# A slightly different configuration for an internal subnet.
subnet 192.168.1.0 netmask 255.255.255.0 {
range 192.168.1.1 192.168.1.254;
option domain-name-servers 192.168.1.1;
option routers 192.168.1.100;
option broadcast-address 192.168.1.255;
default-lease-time 600;
max-lease-time 7200;
}
~
restart the service
start the service
check ip now its changed to dhcp
