Hurling and camogie are the same sport they are only slightly different rules like the goal keeper wearing the same jersey as the outfield players in camogie which is because they don't get special protection from the referee whereas in hurling the goalkeeper can not be tackled in the goal square so the refs need to be able to identify him quickly.

The ball is pronounced “slitter”.

Not “slee-o-tar” 🤣

It’s a Gaelic word not an English one.

It was Irish emigrants in Canada who invented hockey

Hurling is mentioned in Irish stories that are thousands of years old and there are 2000 year oldl stone carvings showing Hurling players.

I recommend having a look at the last 15 minutes of the 2013 All ireland final replay or the last 5 minutes of the 2014 all ireland final videos

They don't get paid for playing either. They play for honor alone.

BAseball and hurling are veryyy different, hurling allows players to hit you with the Hurley on the hand whilst hitting it, and base ball is just getting a ball thrown at you and all you have to do is hit it. Also helmets used to be optional, so many players didn't wear helmets, or didn't have face guards, which by the way, the helmets and the shin guards (which are optional, even to this day) are the only protection players wear, and they literally get welted with sticks the whole game. Thanks for reacting to hurling, you should give it a try.

What is not explained in the video is that hurling is an ancient sport, having been played in one form or another in Ireland for around 3, 000 years, yes three thousand years! It has been recorded in ancient Irish gaelic mythology as a less lethal means of training young warriors for battle in ancient times. Given that the sport has existed for thousands of years it would be inaccurate to say that it has aspects of baseball, field hockey, soccer, lacrosse or any other sport. It might be more accurate to say that sports like baseball and soccer of more recent origin have developed from hurling. Lacrosse, being a native North American sport is as unique as hurling.

You watched the wrong video. An English narrator who cannot pronounce the names correctly and has clearly only learnt the rules of this sport for his video.

The explanation video of Hurling was obviously an English person (sassenach). His pronunciation regarding the sport was absolutely pathetic. Just enter "gaa hurling Eamonn " and you'll understand in 10 mins

It's mainly popular in the south of Ireland in the more prosperous farming regions and some cities like Cork and Limerick.

The headgear is only mandatory since 2012. Before that you didn’t have to wear it!!

Like your reaction to Hurling which is responsible for so many of todays games. On a side note "Aussie rules" is a hybrid of rugby and Gaelic football. As you'll see from history the British Empire sent Irish and English criminals to Aus. It was only natural they'd find their own sport

Hurling is not a new sport.
It is older than the US.
Plus the game is played for 70mins not 60.
35 X 2.
