How to never miss this tech: Press Shield

12:48 so not only can Steve go creative gamemode, but he can grant this power to other characters as well

The reason you can tech at any point during final spark is due to how the input buffer system works. The final spark literally freezes the state of the game for some amount of frames, this means no actions can take place including techs, attacks etc. The exception to this however is the game still receives inputs and stores them in the input buffer, so when you tech during the final spark the game records the input and executes it on the first available frame, being the instant the final spark ends. If you press it twice, it executers the first input and the second input is still in the buffer and that's where the air dodge comes from.

13:40 so not only can Steve stand on TNT and blow it up while completely dodging the hitbox, not only can he get hit and completely cancel the hitstun, but he gets stronger follow ups if he lets himself get hit !

Between them using The World’s time stop sound and il vento d’oro playing in this episode, we can finally say the Beefy Smash Doods are a JoJo’s reference

2:41 I swear! This happed to me when I was playing as villager in a 4 player free for all I was about to get KOed by Roy. It threw us all by surprise when villager was on the victory screen.

Tech buffer is weird in this game. From my testing it goes like this (granted, online they extend the tech buffer window by a few frames to account for latency):

Holding shield during hit stun will always grant a tech unless you become actionable prior to hitting the stage. You can try this yourself by teching some cpt. falcon/gannon up b. Snakes stage is the best to try this on.

Holding shield after a tech will not make you air dodge, but holding shield without being a tech situation will (e.g. the knockback isn't high enough to hit a wall).

You can buffer a tech roll or jump by holding the input and shield while in hit stun.

Basically its more important to know what moves/percents won't put you in a tech situation than ones that will. This is because if you release the buffered tech prior to becoming actionable, it will disregard your shield input in favor of any other action. This is why online low percent drag downs are way more consistent to gimp with.

It's videos like these that keep my interest in Smash alive, even when I'm taking a break from the game. Thank you, guys.

If the Final KO screen is going to skip all your hitstop time to DI and trick you so often the least it can do is not whip you when you have to tech (assuming it's an instant one lol)

2:52 It's most definitely a ragequit. When it instantly goes from smooth to basically a screenshot, the opponent has disconnected. It's also not that rare to find people that will quit just before losing, out of childish spite, so you don't get the victory GSP. Villager cancelled his own win, he deserves the L.

I've always found it really easy to tech the final spark and this explains why.

I believe with the ice climbers/steve down throw thing, since anvil hit shield it extended the hitbox which gave popo enough time to get out and side b the steve, extending the hitbox even more but taking no damage cause of invincibility. Its like the infinite ganon side b except hes invincible
