The upright bass has a weird instrument. Like, the modern-day upright bass is a part of the violin family, but it's more like a cousin, not a sibling. The origins of the upright bass actually comes from the viol family, a whole different family of string instruments that — believe it or not — are actually the precursor to the violin family — and a direct one specific, because the violin family is actually based on the viol family, so they are related.

i feel like the string tuning is a interesting way to classify an instrument because it is possibly the easiest and most common to characteristic that a player can modify

Bass is by far the best string instrument, it took me two weeks to learn and start playing with my beginner band, a month later I played it in an intermediate band and two weeks later I played it in an advanced band. The only downside is transportation becoming really hard.

Whoa 🤯 I never knew that stuff about bass and I played in orchestra for 9 years! They’re tuned in fourths? That’s so wild! And I never noticed that about the shoulders. Are their any other instruments in the bass’s family?

I picked up a free CD at a Guitar Center. It was for a band called Judgment Day. They had a song called Cobra Strike. I watched their video and it turned out to be a Violin Cello Drums Power Trio.
