Solving and graphing a linear inequality word problem

Learn how to solve multi-step linear inequalities having no parenthesis. An inequality is a statement in which one value is not equal to the other value. An inequality is linear when the highest exponent in its variable(s) is 1. (i.e. there is no exponent in its variable(s)). A multi-step linear inequality is an inequality in which multiple steps of operations are to be performed to obtain the solution(s).

To solve a linear inequality with no paranthesis, we first use inverse operations (addition/subtraction) to combine like terms and then, we also use inverse operations (multiplication/division) to isolate the variable. (recall that multiplication/division with a negative number changes the orientation of the inequality sign).
