Dang, Rita was so messed up, sick. Her Super Sentai counterpart was the opposite. Her villainy was because she had a broken heart with grief over the fact that her son was killed by dinosaurs.

Sure the shield came with the ranger in the show, but wow.
That is the perfect backstory for it in the comic. Never see such expressions on Rita’s face, more like a quieter frustration, never knew who her parents were, but what she did was beyond messed. I wonder how Tommy used it comic wise 🤔 Awesome short, love it 👌😎

I like how whenever people think Power Rangers they think oh that thing for kids. And then there's stuff like this where it's like, thievery, tomb raiding, mother killing, and reviving the dead. It is most certainly not 'just for kids'

OH its even more complicated than that..
She picked tommy because he had all those qualities. Courage, honor, Loyalty, ECT...
She specifically chose him NOT knowing something.... That he was ALWAYS destined to be white ranger. So the green powers would NEVER have stuck. Saba( his sword) knew his ass was out there... and was waiting.. when Z an Alpha sent Ole Tom a questiing for the white power coin.. Saba put his adorable pony tailed self through the mental wringer to prove that he was in fact the person destined to have it.. The Lightbearer. So yah.. Tommy's a frigging Messiah.
