I do believe that was a clarinet ! The great thing about Supertramp, Back in the day when they would come in concert, they brought all of their instruments and all of their sound effects, They did not skimp anywhere on the quality of their music ! There Amazing live ! I still have all my concert studs from the 70's !

My grandpa played the "licorice stick" AKA the clarinet which was a popular lead solo instrument back in the Big Band era. Not too much in the rock era but yeah, clarinet in R & R. Gotta love it!

Man! A true, honest reaction. Everything I've seen of yours is. I can't wait for you to get through the rest of this album. Especially "Child of Vision". Check out their album "Crime of the Century" next. Thanks, my friend....

Another good one...one with a VERY whimsical British lyrical style (occasionally seen in other British bands like The Who, Jethro Tull, and Pink Floyd, and often by The Beatles).

The instrument you're asking about is a Bb (B flat) clarinet.

I have said it before your enthusiasm is infectious. The wind instrument was a clarinet.

It's whimsical but it's so melodic and fertile. Love it. The title of this song made me stop and think about in this modern song-based stream-oriented world, I wonder how familiar you are with the nomenclature related to music and record albums and so forth?

Because the name of this song is the same as the name of this album, you would say that this song is the "title track". And on a meta level, that amazing first album by the band Boston is simply named Boston, so in that case you could say that it was the band's "eponymous" as well as their debut album.

I have seen a lot of young reactors commonly call each song in a playlist a record, whereas those of us that grew up with records think of the entire album as the record, and the individual songs on it as songs or "cuts" from the album.

I never thought about it before, but we say that songs are from or "on" a record, and yet we will often say Oh do you know that one song "off of" their first record? 😀

Last year, I saw a 2 hour video here in YouTube...that claimed to be a documentary of the band. About 30 min. turned out to be a FULL concert. A lot of stuff from 'Crimes of the Century' and 'Breakfast in America'.

The tuba just sends this song into overdrive.

The low sounding brass instrument was a tuba. The high one was a clarinet.

The instrument you were reacting to was a Clarinet.... i thought it might have been a soprano saxophone, but Wikipedia says clarinet.

This is so awesome. So honest. I mean, Supertramp are so Epic, I can’t even imagine hearing them for the first time. I love this guy.
