**Keep in mind that this is an excerpt. Someone's common behavior (their baseline) matters a lot, and single behaviors are often meaningless -- this is why spotting clusters of behavior is so important.

Repeating the question, is recommended in every "active listening"-course.

I do this all the time. It buys me time to remember what I did Wednesday night. Not being deceptive, I am just trying to remember.

I’m a teacher and I always repeat a student’s question giving the rest of the class a chance to hear the question before I answer.

Both in the military and the ER, we repeat back exactly what was said. It's called closed loop communication, and it keeps mistakes from misunderstanding from potentially killing someone. In general conversation it's implying that one is listening actively and is a sign of respect.

I could picture myself repeating the question not to be deceptive but to try and recall what I did Wednesday night (like I'm asking myself the question)

Everyone always thinks I'm lying because I pause before answering. No I'm thinking!

In one of my college courses, We were taught to repeat the question before answering to show we are paying attention to what the person had said.

It’s literally hammered into you as a child in school that you repeat the question asked before answering

I have an auditory processing issue, and I can see myself repeating a question while my brain catches up and spits out an answer.

That is how we were taught to testify; repeating a piece of the question. We learned that this was to imprint exactly what you were saying with the jurors, making sure the clarity was present.

"I didn't do it. It was like that when I got here." That's the only answer to give for any question.

I repeat it because it takes me a split second to register that someone is talking to me so I reiterate to make sure I have the right question and it’s become habitual.

There are more exceptions: brainfog, hearing or processing problems, impaired memory, ... Therefore this can be a clue, sure, a puzzle piece - but it does NOT give you the whole picture.

If you have ADHD or something similar you have to repeat it either in your head or maybe you say it out loud to receive the clarity.

Note to self. Repeat full questions from the moment of contact with law enforcement. Throw them off. Thank you. These videos make it easier to make it null for investigators to pin you down.

I’m not native English speaking person. I would definitely repeat the question especially if I’m under distress.
