STUART, Fla. (CBS12) — While students across the state are enjoying summer break, a new report released by the Florida Department of Education shows improvement in all key academic subjects this school year.

This is the second year Florida students have taken the “Florida Assessment of Student Thinking” Exam or FAST Test.

They were created to assess and measure what students know at the start of the year, the middle of the year, and the end of the year.

These “progress-monitoring tests” are given three times a year from kindergarten through 10th grade.

The first two test sessions measure what students know and what they still need to learn.

The third exam is the big one – it assesses whether they mastered the coursework over the course of the year and if they retained what they learned.
