Abraham Lincoln may have been a 1-term president, but his ideologies and implementations changed the course of history, perhaps more than any other president in the United States. Here are some of the less well-known accomplishments of the Lincoln Administration not directly linked to the combat between North and South.

Correct me if I'm wrong ... the US at the time was unique in setting aside such large swathes of land to be used as park systems.

Sure there were other public parks, gardens and recreation areas by other heads of state. But to "completely" set aside such large areas to protect for future generations, is a concept we can be proud of

The things I heard from my father that I just assumed he was misremembering but now I know to be true: Bananas were better when he was little and Thanksgiving used to be held on the 4th OR 5th Thursday of November.

Yay! Possibly Honest Abe! He was a lawyer after all. Harrowing how much he aged while in office.

A large portion of Yosemite was dammed off and flooded circa 1930 to provide clean drinking water for the Bay Area. Tough to say if Lincoln would have been okay with that.

Just FYI, the map of Confederate and Union states is misleading. WestVirginia was a part of Virginia at the beginning of the war, BUT in the area where West Virginia was, it was vehemently against the South and slavery. It is why my family moved there in the 1840s (Baldwins married black and Indian women). WVa became a state during the Civil War, and were a part of the Union.

Abe Lincoln said:
Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak out and remove all doubt

Sometimes Mark Twain has been assigned the version of the maxim using the phrase “remain silent”. For example, in 1980 a newspaper in Ottawa, Canada printed the following:[21]

Mark Twain put it well .. “it is better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to talk and remove all doubt.”

In conclusion, there is no substantive evidence that this popular adage was coined or employed by Abraham Lincoln or Mark Twain. The earliest ascriptions to these famous figures appeared many years post death.

The University of Texas is a land school. The land was a huge part of West TEXAS, pretty much was desert. Then around the early 19's Oil was discoverer. It was the Permian Basin oil field, one of the largest in the world. UT was given lemons, and found oil

I didn't see Valley forge or Gettyburge on that map, so I looked up national parks, and they weren't on the list. When you go to the web pages for those parks, they call them national historic parks, operated by the national park system. It's confusing.
