I highly recommend Barbie A Fairy Secret, got some grade-A comedy in there and it's one of my personal favourites.

If you're looking for good, underrated, Barbie movies, may I recommend Island Princess, which I think has the best story out of all of them.

You should totally do the Fairytopia series, and the Mariposa series too, which is a spinoff of the Fairytopia series!

I do think the first one is better, but the second has the SHIP that folks like, MerliahXKylie.
The Brazilian Dub calls Merliah(the magic thing, not Barbie's character, she is still Merliah in the movie, and until now I didn't know they use it the same name and I'm glad the dub change it) - Mar(Sea)+Vita(life)- Marvita(it sounds so much better and the meaning it's kept the same).
Anyways, the lesson of the Barbie movie is -NEVER EVER QUESTION THE MAGIC, just accept it.
these movies are made in 6 months, so yeah, the pre-production and animation are done quickly and I don't think they do many drafts of the scripts.
Now do Diamond Castle, want a confusing mess, that's the movie you are going to watch, but with very cute lesbians(they are “friends“ but the fandom knows they are gay for one another).

You hit some extremely good points
I liked this movie (though not as much as the first one) because it just added onto Merlia and her mom’s relationship.
Plus, I live for any trope that includes rivals to something more. Fills my heart

Though I am sad the awesome friends from the first movie didn’t have a part in all this. Even though yeah, makes since why they weren’t considering most of it was underwater, they were my favorite characters

Maybe the reason that Calissa's 'greatest fear' was not being able to swim and not sth like her daughter or kingdom being in danger was a limit of Eris's magic? Like, the power is only so strong and can only affect the target, not an entire kingdom or a whole other person, so not being able to swim was just the strongest fear Calissa had that was within Eris's power to manifest.

Here's what I think. Calissa has only been in Merliah's life for one year, so she's really only been a mom to Liah for a year. Liah has been doing surfing for, we can assume, her whole life and has been working super hard to get to the finals, then, suddenly, her abesent-for-15-years mom (not her fault, I know but she wasn't there for 15 years nonetheless) tells her to throw it away, not so she can help rule the kingdom, but to WATCH HER MOM SIT ON A FANCY CHAIR AND REGAIN THE POWER TO MAKE THE GLOWING OCEAN RESOURSE, which is essentially just a fancy, underwater light show. It would be an honor to see, yes, but not at the expense of something that she was working towards for her entire life. Anyways, there's my two cents, I know everyone interprets the scene differently, so take this with a grain of salt.

The first movie is definitely more fun between these two. I also remember it having the better music, but it's been a while. Either way, they're good movies for their age group and a fun watch for adults who want to just relax and enjoy something cute which we all need sometimes!

I actually like both Mermaid Tale movies. The first one cause it’s just so good and when I was a kid, I find everything in that movie pretty and mystical. So, yeah.

The second one, I liked because of Marlia and Kyle’s friendship and the concept of that fear magic. My reason for liking both movies didn’t really change that much over the years.
